Taco Tuesday Takes on Colorful And Sweet Look

Students and members of the Wright College Community participate in Candyland’s games and activities.

With a huge and colorful inflatable rainbow arc welcoming you as you walk into the Faculty Dining Area, the entire room is decorated with bright and colorful candy decorations.

70 students attended the Feb. 7 Taco Tuesday event. Those attending the event played a life-size version of the board game Candyland

Everyone who participated was assigned to a specific team and, like the traditional game of Candyland, they will “roll” to stop at different stations throughout the room.

“I think it’s a super creative idea, to see (Candyland) in action is so fun,” SGA Senator Jennifer Mondragon-Velez said.

Amal Zalloum, a student, stated that “The whole event was memorable for me!” She also says that she wishes for more arts and craft-centered events for future Taco Tuesdays.

Recent Taco Tuesday events focused on creating affirmation bracelets in which attendees can create their own beaded bracelets with any word that they liked. Another event focused on Vision Boards, where anyone can lay out their dreams and goals for the new year.

Many attendees said they heard about Taco Tuesday from posters and SGA representatives. One can also find upcoming events on the Wright Life website.

These Taco Tuesday events provide students a fun and relaxing time out of their busy schedules. Javier Vasquez, another attendee says that: “Being at Taco Tuesday allows me to hang out with my friends and not do any homework or worry about school. Just having fun.”

As for the creative minds behind the event, Kelly Vasquez said that there were several people who pitched the idea of Candyland to be one of the themes.

“[SGA president Dominika Panek] and others were the ones who came up with the idea for Candyland,” Vasquez said. “They just wanted something fun and exciting.”

Vasquez said that it took about 6 days to put everything together. But the planning stage has been in the works during the COVID lockdown.

Max Rivera, a Wright student who also works as a Work Study for Student Activities, said that two Black History Month-themed events are planned for the end of the month, one being a Kahoot event and the other-not yet set in stone- will focus on a small gallery or museum where students can display their own works of art relating to Black History Month.
