WAW rolled out the second Hispanic Heritage Month event
Today was the second Hispanic Heritage event here at Wright. Every week until next month there will be celebrations for the Hispanic community here at Wright. Most Events include food, prizes and games! You can find the events located in Wright’s Atrium building.
SGA Secretary , William Flores, who's a mechanical engineering major, stated that “the event is great “and that, “we’re celebrating culture here at Wright”. Flores says his booth is about the SGA association.
The event said the food provided was going to be tacos and churros , however Flores stated that, "unfortunately churros couldn't be provided at the event even though it said it on the flyer, due to our food supplier we try and fit food that caters best to our theme”. Flores then says “We plan to do an event for day of the dead and Halloween and to stay tuned.“
Emma Marrison , a peer specialist for the wellness center said, ”I think the event is going really well! And we’re having lots of student interaction“ Marrison says her booth is, about the wellness center and, "letting students know we’re a free resource on campus.”
Marrison says, “I do love the food here , but I wish they did have Churros” . She then said “I love the raffle they do, I think it’s clever because it gets students to engage with you.“
Upcoming events include : Sept 28 In the cafeteria from 1-3pm. The wellness center and present Open studio to come and explore creativity through art, journaling and writing. No experience needed , materials are provided and it’s open to students , faculty and staff.
Sept. 30, at 6pm in the theater, a recital called “All Bloodlines” will take place, stop by to listen to Latin music and origin stories
Oct. 1, at 3pm there’s an open mic t in the library, open to students to showcase poems , essays or songs. There will also be food and prizes
Oct. 6, at 2pm the SGA is hosting a Wright around the world event “National Taco day”, Join them for tacos, drinks and loteria.
Oct. 9, at 12pm Gastronomy with Professor Gustavo will be taking place. Join him in the cafeteria to try food from several Latin American countries, attendees can also learn the history behind the dish.
Oct. 13 and 14, at 11am-1pm, Dreamer club presents “Pan de Muerto & Cafecito” [Bread of the dead and little coffee]
Oct. 16th at 1-3pm there will be a closing bash for Hispanic Heritage Month, with a salsa band, food and dance.
