SGA’s Sip N’ Paint was a Success

“It tastes good but it turns into a volcano,” said a Wright College student attending last Tuesday’s Paint N’ Sip, hosted by the SGA.

The student was talking about the mocktails which were part of the club’s event for Women’s History Month, entitled “Telling Your Story.”

Non-alcoholic drinks were made from La Croix, Margaritaville, Hawaiian Punch, and pina colada mixes. Attendees entered a room filled with jazz music, snacks, drinks, and paint. After helping themselves to the provisions, students picked from 50 color options and started to paint their creations.

When students RSVP'd to the event, they provided a picture of their side profile so that the SGA could print a silhouette. Then, when the event started, they painted inside the shape or free-styled without the silhouette, allowing the painters to show their true colors.

“Water, sun, flowers. That’s all I think of,” said a participant.

The main objective for the Paint N’ Sip was to take a moment for students to celebrate themselves and their stories, yet other goals were met. Seats filled quickly. The glass partition and jazz music were perfect additions that created a serene environment. Some students were painting, some were mingling, and others were simply accompanying their friends, making the room buzz with a balance of chatter and creativity.

A boy’s painting was so good that it was used as an example when SGA was doing their tutorial. He finished his painting early and mingled with participants, helping them with their silhouettes.

Time went by very fast, as the event ran from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., and the painters were not finished by the closing time. As a result, a member of the SGA volunteered to stay longer so that painters could finish their work. The result was an uplifted and creatively confident crowd.

Everyone’s art was so different, yet they all shared a sense of creativity and intentionalism, reinforcing that Wilbur is not just a community college but a safe and catering community, filled with clubs and resources for students to utilize.

The turnout was so successful that students were taking the opportunity to promote their own clubs to the group. Unfortunately, there are groups at Wright that have the events and supplies, but they don’t have the attendance for whatever reason.

SGA did it again, with a creative premise and successful execution.
