Get Wright at SGA’s Taco Tuesdays

Wright students enjoyed free tacos and a bingo game at last week’s Taco Tuesday, hosted by SGA.

As finals approach, many students at Wright share a feeling of stress. Yet, when a student feels overwhelmed, they can find affirmations, tacos, games, and many laughs at SGA’s weekly Taco Tuesdays from 2 to 4 in the staff cafeteria.

Last week, SGA hosted Affirmation Bingo. Students were given bingo cards that contained multiple different motivational sayings on them. When a student won, they picked from a trolley of gifts such as a Wright shirt or mug.

The turnout was successful as many students and Wright community members gathered with their friends. Quotes by Maya Angelou, Oprah Winfrey, and Buddha were among the many sayings included in SGA’s bingo list. Students were able to find motivation throughout the evening with sayings such as, “I will pass my classes, I will not be defeated, I will finish strong” and “If you get tired, learn to rest, not to quit”.

“The whole goal of Taco Tuesday is to bring the campus community together in a fun way,” said Dominika Panek, SGA’s president, “finals are coming up, so something like positive affirmations is something that every student needs to hear to continue and finish off the semester strong”.

The bingo game was not only motivational for students, but also very entertaining as SGA speakers read the sayings in their best motivational speaker interpretations. Some sayings, such as, “Be a fruitloop in a world of cheerios” also elicited laughs from the students. In addition, students were asked to repeat some of the affirmations to ensure the message was received.

Students attend Taco Tuesdays for a variety of reasons, such as the food, the games, or the community. The following Taco Tuesday will consist of Pizza and a game of Pictionary.

“We’ve had up to 80 people come before”, said Panek. “People come, they chat, they get to meet new friends, they get a meal out of it, they get to play a game and have prizes, it’s just a lot of fun”, said Patek.

In addition to the free food and comradery at SGA’s events, student participants also collect points for their attendance at these events by entering their student ID numbers before they enter. These points can be redeemed for Wright merchandise and even a chance to win an iPad in a raffle at the end of the year if reached 100 points.
