Alliance Club Offers Safe Environment for LGBTQ+ Community

Wright college has a plethora of clubs to join, but with so many options, it can be hard to find specific ones right for you.

One of Wright’s clubs, the Alliance club, offers a place for Wright College students to build community and a safe environment for each other. Adrian Panopio, president of the club, explained “The Alliance Club is open to everyone, whether you are a part of the LGBTQ+ community or simply an ally, everyone is welcomed.”

According to Panopio, about 28 people have joined the Alliance club officially.

Asked about what kind of impact the Alliance club has had on the LGBTQ+ students at Wright, Panopio said “I feel like our club has helped people, especially people in the LGBTQ+ community here at Wright, feel welcomed and at home.”

“The mission of our club is to create a safe and welcoming environment for the Wright College community, especially those who are in the LGBTQ+ community,” Panopio said.

According to Panopio, “Our alliance club meetings this semester were simple and straightforward. We would begin with basic information and all those formalities. More recently, during LGBTQ+ history month, we spent our meeting time working on our poster for the pride party that SGA hosted in which we highlighted famous LGBTQ+ icons. But most times, our meetings would just be a fun time with each other, playing board games, listening to music, eating, and catching up on how our week has been.”

Regarding activities and events, the Alliance club has many lined up for this Spring 2023 semester, such as “Drag Bingo Night.” They also have a game night hosted every week during their meetings.

The Alliance Club meets every Monday from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

If you are interested in joining the club, you can visit Presence through your student portal at my.ccc.edu to find more info and join. Their page also shows a description of the upcoming club events so you’ll know what’s coming up and where to go.
