For over a century, the Chicago Bears and Soldier Field have defined the Chicago skyline. Now, with negotiations stalling at home and Indiana aggressively dangling tax incentives just across the state line. Chicago's most beloved franchise is flirting with an unthinkable new identity: the Indiana Bears.
According to Chicago Sun Times team leadership insists that the Chicago Bears name will remain regardless of where the kickoff is held, the standoff exposes the conflict between modern sports economics and local pride.
Gridlocked in Springfield over property tax breaks to their site in Arlington Park; alongside pushback against a new expensive lakefront venue, the Bears have turned their attention towards Indiana reported WTTW.
Policy makers in Indiana quickly assembled up to $1 billion in incentives and additional tax reliefs for the proposed Bears stadium in Hammond, Ind.
This cross-border courtship has triggered shock waves across campus. To lifelong fans like first year student Zach Uddin, the Bears move to Indiana would leave a lasting disconnect in the sporting culture of Chicago, it would, "no longer be the Chicago Bears" even if the name stays the same.
Uddin also noted that the change would also be devastating to Chicago businesses dependent on the local foot traffic of fans.

an, voiced similar concerns, describing the current mutually beneficial relationship Bears games have in uplifting local businesses.
Whilst sharing his experiences watching and cheering for the Bears with his friends, Sanchez stated that, "[moving] should be the last resort...think about the city, not the money."
Jamel Clark, a first year and casual fan, expressed concern for the cultural impacts the relocation will bring, mentioning a potentially "dead city" on game day.
At the same time, Clark also acknowledged that for himself, if the Indiana location meant lower ticket prices, he would be more likely to come and watch the games.
