Year-Long Scheduling Returns to Wilbur Wright College

Students at Wright College can now plan their class schedule for summer and fall 2025 and the spring 2026 semester. This is the second year that City Colleges of Chicago will allow students to plan classes a year in advance. This gives first-year students a blueprint for pursuing their associate’s degree during their remaining time at Wright College. 

Maria Llopiz, associate dean of student services, said she is excited about year-long scheduling, calling it a “gamechanger.”  “There’s nothing like being able to select and have first choice,” she said. 

Llopiz mentioned that year-long scheduling can assist students to maximize their money awarded from FAFSA and can go towards their future. “It works in an ideal way because when students are awarded their financial aid, and many of our students use financial aid, the award is for the year. Sometimes students have money left over that can cover the summer semester.”

Priority registration for continuing students opens April 7, while registration for all students opens April 9. Students can visit Navigate on their student portal to schedule appointments with an adviser who can help them plan the classes they need to take.

David Rubio, a computer science major, shared why he recommends taking advantage of planning for your classes. “Plan ahead because all of those classes can fill up pretty fast,” Rubio said. “What if I need to take a class for my degree? Sometimes it’s not available if you do it last minute or it's on different campuses that are too far for me. I prefer to plan maybe a year in advance.”

Second-year student Marcos Barboza, however, sees year-long planning as unnecessary, saying that the right time to plan for classes is “maybe a couple months, but not a year.”

Chemistry professor Zaishu Jin likes the idea of planning class schedules ahead of time. “I can prepare a syllabus ahead, also for me to be prepared more,” she said. 

Music and psychology professor Eftihia Papageorgiou said she prefers planning ahead for her class schedules. “It makes the rest of the semester less hectic, it’s always good to know how many students I’m gonna have,” Papageorgiou mentioned how the TBA label under classes can make it difficult for students to know ahead of time which professor is going to teach their class. So, if a student wants to learn from a specific professor, planning early will not provide a complete picture of options.

Llopiz, however,  strongly urges students to register early for classes, pointing out the benefits. “You get to choose the days, times, modalities, the professors, that best meet your needs in your personal life and work schedule,” Llopiz said.
