SGA Names New Elected Officers for the 2026-27 School Year

On April 20 the three-way fight for President of the Student Government Association came to a long-awaited end. Sofia Sanchez was elected as SGA President for the 2026-2027 Academic Year. Sanchez led the vote by 64.6% confirmed by Student Activities Director Katie Ordinario, receiving the majority out of 65 total counted votes for the election. Vice-President Elect Dana Perez and Adam Rafacz, a member of the Wright Times, ran uncontested for their positions, solidifying the leadership team.

Out of 65 total votes, and 136 views on the Wright Life Website, out of a school population that totals around 11,887 students, less than 1% of the student population voted in the Student Government election. Ordinario says that the only requirement for voting is you must be registered to Wright College, meaning that students who migrate and commute from other schools or go to multiple city colleges aren’t eligible to vote. Ordinario says that these results are “On-par with previous years.”

Ordinario said that using Wright Life’s website has been a more recent method of voting and previously they used Brightspace and said they had a “better response rate with Brightspace, because students check that everyday.”

Sofia Sanchez said she was on campus in the SGA Lounge on April 20 and saw an email from Katie Ordinario, with the election results for the 2026-2027 school year. “When I saw it, I was like, I can’t open it yet I have to wait for my friends,” Sanchez said. “And then when I saw it, I was double checking it over and over again, and then there was this moment of shock, and then my friends started screaming and cheering.”

Rafacz shared he is very excited for his new role as secretary. Rafacz said, “I feel very great, kind of energetic I want to say. I want to do good and serve the people well.”

Sanchez said, “I am very grateful and emotional. When I first came to Wright, I didn’t imagine myself in a position like this, to be honest. It’s a huge responsibility, and I’m really, really motivated by the people that represent the student body.”

Ordinario said, “It’s exciting to get new students who are eager to make a change.”

Sanchez said, “I’m really excited for what’s ahead, and I’m ready to work, not just for the students, but with them. And that’s something I’m really excited about for the future, for the next semester.”
