SASE Hosts Fundraiser Run

SASE, the Society of Asian Scientists and Engineers, is hosting a fund run event on Friday. What is the fundraiser about you may ask? The fundraiser is about helping SASE members gain enough money to bring as many SASE officers as possible to go to Michigan State University on April 4th for a conference that helps students in other SASE chapters find careers and other opportunities that can help them when they are done with college.

The fundraiser will see officers of the club run a number of miles around the school depending on how much someone donates to them. People donated money to see the club members run in outfits and accessories that are raised in their name, but what does the club mean to some of the members, what are they hoping to gain from going to Michigan State and what memories are they hoping to make?

Vin Moreno, a second year biological engineering major who is the vice president  of Wright's SASE chapter said, "I'm looking forward to member collaboration, seeing new people join the club, and looking forward to seeing the run. I’m looking forward to being able to go to Michigan State University, to bring our officers and to be able to earn more money so we can bring more of our officers with us in the future.”

This is the first year Wright’s SASE chapter will be doing the fund run, but SASE has been around for a long time. SASE started around the country in 2007 Wright’s chapter started in 2018.

Nikolai Cruz, a second year manufacturing engineer and treasurer of SASE, when asked what he looks forward to about the run and conference said, “Seeing people’s faces when I’m running and my sign that people bought me and I’m looking forward to other officers wearing the accessories. I’m excited to see our SASE chapters and talk to them and get to know other people. I’m also excited to see what companies they bring in this year.”

Vinny Sun, a second year electrical engineering student, said, “I’m looking forward to the memories we make and to fuel our goals to try and get to where we wanna be in the midwest conference and give us fun experiences and opportunities, and help us improve our social skills as well because we have to put ourselves out there.”

Many more members of SASE said how excited they are for the conference and for the run, but it’s not just SASE running alone as they have gotten some help from other clubs.

Everardo Guzman, a second year mechanical engineering major and president of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, will be joining SASE in the run. Guzman said, “I’m looking forward to see how I’m gonna do because it’s been a while since I’ve ran and I’m tryna beat my goal of three miles, I’m looking forward to running with a ton of people and looking dumb with them.”

Maya Patel, a second year electrical engineering and president of Wright’s SASE said, “I’m looking forward to seeing everyone participate because it’s not just for the officers but other people from different organizations, and seeing our new officers being able to take advantage of this opportunity.”
