“Pace yourself, take it one day at a time,” second year student Eiyhana Grant said when asked about what advice she would give a first year student at Wilbur Wright. For first year students it's a completely new environment, you have to build up a new sense of community, and there is pressure to build yourself up academically all over again.
Pacing and preparation were commonly given answers when asked about what advice returning students would give to newcomers. Grant talked about her struggles juggling outside responsibilities and balancing her education at the same time. Grant also said, “Talk to more people, have somebody to confide in.”
Matt Lebowski, who is in his second semester at Wright, offered another solution on dealing with all the newfound responsibility that comes with being a new college student. “Talk to advisors. Don’t take on too much that you can’t handle and don’t start late,” Lebowski said.
Students mentioned creating an environment for yourself where you can academically thrive by taking advantage of all the resources available. The Wellness Center is there for students who may be mentally struggling and for academic needs the Tutoring Center is also available.
These are some of the various resources offered by Wilbur Wright for students. Mekhi Laboy, who is attending Wilbur Wright for the third year, said, “Try and do your classes in the afternoon. Find time in a good setting like a library or a quiet place at home.”
