Rams Come Up Short in Match Against Kishwaukee College

Wright’s men’s soccer team had a powerful start in their Sept. 30 game against Kishwaukee College, maintaining the lead and thwarting all shots for the entire first half yet coming up short in a 1-6 loss. They found themselves unable to maintain their lead when only 19 minutes into the second half they lost two of their players due to red cards. Freshman Midfielder Christian Mejia said, “The unfortunate red card, I mean it did a big impact in the game.” The team was forced to play with only nine men for the last 26 minutes of the game.

Freshman Goalkeeper Leandro Esquivel who is ranked second in saves said “Everything just came down after bad plays, bad decisions from our own team.”

Toward the end of the game Freshman Forward Alberto Mayan said he was thinking, “How can I not waste my energy so much while we’re two players down, and how can we pick up our tempo?” Of the first half Mejia said, “We came out a lot stronger in the first half, clearly the better team going in.” Meija further explained that after the first goal for the opposing team in the second half, the rhythm changed. The Rams had been controlling the momentum of the game up until that point.

Esquivel said they would be better with their intensity as a team in the future. “I think in the toughest moments we need to be there for each other as well as the best moments.”

The Rams next game is at Harper College on Oct. 4 and their next  home game is against Daley College at 4139 N. Oak Park Ave. on Tuesday Oct. 7 at 5 p.m.
