Peer Specialists Organize Junk Journaling Event

On Thursday peer specialists from the Wellness Center hosted a junk journaling event in the cafeteria. Peer Specialist Tamari Stewart, a second year student majoring in psychology, said, “We usually just try to really focus in on creative events that the students can like connect with.” This allows students to enjoy each other's presence and talk about the materials they would like to use in their journals.

For those unfamiliar with junk journaling it is the action of using a mixture of recycled materials such as papers from books, printed images and ephemera like post stamps. A junk journal can include a scrapbook, field guide, planner or photo album.

Oliwia Gajda, a first year student majoring in art,  has done junk journaling before and ran into her friends who convinced her to come to the event. “I guess it was meant to be,” Gajda said as she expressed her appreciation for the event.

The Wellness Center does many activities that lets the students at Wright engage with each other and express themselves creatively, focusing on community. For example, an event last week focused on essential oils, which allowed students to create their own oils and share their thoughts on the various essential oils they liked or disliked.

The Wellness Center also does open support groups, such as women's talk and connection corner, and they provide emergency funds and the health market.
