New SGA Executives Share Goals and Interests

The SGA has four new officers heading into the new semester: President Angelina Martinez, Vice President Evan Grobowski, Treasurer Max Lemus, and Secretary Josh Batres. The officers discussed their plans for Wilbur Wright and their personalities outside of school.

The new SGA President, Angelina Martinez, joined the SGA in her first semester. “Joining encouraged me to do better in classes,” Martinez said, making her incredibly passionate about running to be an officer. The biggest issue she mentioned is a lack of advertisement for clubs and events throughout the school.

SGA’s Vice President, Evan Grobowski, said, “Balancing SGA duties and school work is not as hard as I thought.” Grobowski said the key is good time management. Grobowski said the most significant issue as a Wilbur student is the bathrooms.

“I want more privacy,”Grobowski said. Grobowski also mentioned how some of the bathroom stalls are falling apart.“I heard the girls' bathrooms are just as bad as the boys," Grobowski said. Grobowski will keep pushing for bathroom reworks throughout his time as an SGA officer. If money weren’t an issue, Grobowski and Martinez said they would rush to implement a cafe that sells boba and matcha.

Max Lemus, SGA’s Treasurer, shared that he fell behind on his schoolwork when balancing soccer, SGA, and homework, but he believes SGA is worth it .“I'm motivated to be an officer because I’m able to attend to students' concerns directly,” Lemus said.

As a student athlete, Lemus is cracking down on establishing more sports teams at Wilbur and encourages students to join any sports at the school that pique their interest. Lemus isn’t only a soccer fan but also a football fan since his comfort movie is “Every Given Sunday.”

SGA’s Secretary Josh Batres said, “As a kid, I came to Wilbur for swimming lessons. That prior experience at Wilbur encouraged me to become an officer, allowing me to give back to its community.”

Josh emphasized his concerns about the school’s wifi, which he confirmed with President Oroz. Some of the wifi issues have already been resolved, but for full implementation Batres said, “It’s going to take a long time, a couple of years' process.”

The new executives also have a life outside of SGA. While doing her school work, Martinez listens to “TreeHome95” by Tyler, The Creator. Grobowski likes to listen to Maneskin and in is in to wrestling. Lemus isn’t only a soccer fan but also a football fan since his comfort movie is “Every Given Sunday," and he likes to listen to "Turn on the Lights" by Future. Batres likes to listen to “She Want Prada” by 80purppp on a daily basis.
