In late January, the Wilbur Wright College campus experienced a pipe freeze right above the campus center's revolving doors, which then caused water to shoot upward and flood the building. Renovations due to this pipe burst are expected to be completed by the beginning of this fall.
The flooding affected the first floor of the Arts Building and the Learning Resource Center. According to Wilbur Wright Vice President of Finance and Operations, Anna-Marie Morales.
When asked about the completion dates for renovation projects, Morales said, “We have several projects going on. We’ve had piping replacements in the arts building, which is why you see all the tiles.” Repairs of the tiles will be completed by the end of July.
The first floor’s tiles were water damaged and stained; According to Morales, “the entire first floor will have new tiles.”
Morales added, “That was one of our creative decisions. To get rid of any tiles that had water damage.”
Morales added, “We also have repairs related to the floods that took place in January, that’s why the campus was closed for several days, that’s why there are replacements now. Whether it’s baseboards, drywall, painting and all the affected areas.”
When asked if the campus is prepared in case of any future incident, Morales responded, “Yes, depending on what it is.”
Morales elaborates with, “For example, the piping problem, we found the issue. The water pipes were shooting out 50 gallons per minute, so we isolated the valves. The engineers are prepared to do that.”
Morales ensured, “We also have emergency contractors for these kinds of issues.”
