Music Club Rocks Wright’s Cafeteria With Live Music

On March 9, the Wright College Music Club held its first jam fest in Wright’s cafeteria. The genre for the show featured rock and alternative rock songs from Juanes “Me Enamora," and "Smooth” by Santana, to Smash Mouth’s iconic “All Star.”

Many fellow students and faculty settled into seats provided and cheered when the music began.

As the show went on, more people came around to observe the event and some audience members danced while others clapped. The resounding presence for the show has made members of the music club optimistic for future shows.

Julia Carrozza, a member of the music club, gave her remarks of how optimistic and excited she was for the club’s first show.

“It’s a lot more people than we [the club] expected,” Carrozza said. “We chose the cafeteria to host this event to draw in a crowd, but this is more people than we’ve imagined.”

The Music Club meets together in the Music Hall in the events building and members are able to rehearse together and use available equipment; however, when inquired about the equipment and instruments provided for the show, Carrozza stated that all instruments, excluding the drums and piano, are property of the members.

Carrozza hopes to have future shows in larger spaces to give all the audience more room to sit and relax.

The jam fest live music was an aspect that drew in a crowd, and audience goers eager for the performance were not disappointed.

Trinh Le, an audience member, expressed her enjoyment of the show. “It was well organized and the performers were well engaged with the audience.”

Dawne Bolayog, another audience member, also stated that she enjoyed the show and the energy.

“The show was a good fit for the present audience, and the live music made the show worthwhile,” Bolayog said.

Jairo Altamirano, club member and guitarist, was one of the founding members to start the club last semester.

Altamirano expressed his desire for the Music Club to have an established presence at Wright for future and current students.

“Music Club is a club for students to have an opportunity to learn a new instrument or perform,” Altamirano said. “Even after we [current members] graduate or transfer, we want students to realize they have something to enjoy at Wright.”

Altamirano indicated how club members own their guitars and he hopes that future shows will give the club a means to possibly fund for more instruments for future members. The Music Club expects to host more shows in the future, and hope to also recruit more members for the club.
