Wright’s men's soccer team closed the season 2-13-1 and 1-6 in conference play. The team scored 15 goals out of 162 shots and were last in the CCC conference. Head Coach Gabriel Billings talked about what improvements the team needs to make for next year. Billings describes the season as a foundational year. “We were just lacking the depth and commitment,” Billings said.
“I think we had a lot of good, and a few areas that we got to improve upon , but next year should be a good year for us,” Billings said. Billings revealed what needs to happen for the team’s success. “Making sure that we’re recruiting in athletes that are coming that are specifically aiming to play with the men’s soccer team and that are going to do well in the classroom and remain eligible with us throughout the rest of the year.”
“We’re going to get a fresh group coming in, a majority of our freshman returning, pretty much every game we started 10 to 11 freshmen in each of the games so they got a lot of valuable playtime and experience so they’ll know what to expect and make sure they kind of set that tone with the incoming freshmen,” Billings said.
One highlight of the season was Wright goalie Leandro Esquivel leading nationally the NJCAA Division I in saves with 121. Mohammad Hammad was Wright's top scorer with 3 goals scored.
