"All New People" at Wilbur Wright

Stage Wright Production kicked off its rendition of the play "All New People" starting tonight. The play is written by Zach Braff and directed by Tom Murdock. The play has a graphic warning and is advised for an audience of 17+.

The play's composition, “All New People” is full of dark humor and a commentary on life's hardships and the struggle of mortality. We follow the main character, Charlie, who at the beginning of the play is about to end his life. He is staying at an isolated house on the island beaches of New Jersey. As he takes his presumed last huff of a cigar, his exit from our world is abruptly interrupted. A young woman nicknamed Emma stumbles into the place claiming that she is about to rent out the place to a couple. In an act of comedic 'divine interruption,' Emma saved his life in a nonconventional fashion.

Under the impression she was sent by God himself or any other almighty figure to save him, she refuses to leave Charlie on his own. Eventually, she calls her friend, Myron, the island's chief firefighter. Emma is under the heavy influence of pot which makes his commentary lie to rid her of his stay. Charlie had blurted out he "murdered six people" in reality, which was only partially true. Unable to hold in the lie any longer, Charlie reveals that this estate does not belong to him. In reality, it is his rich stockbroker friend, Kevin. In a comedic fashion, a consort Kevin rented out for Charlie shows up at the door.

Charlie drowns in the company of three unwanted guests. Yet they refuse to leave on the account that they are now responsible for Charlie. This ends up in an impromptu party - the drunken haze and the high from cocaine supplied by Myron reveals that all of the characters are both flawed and struggling as well. After realizing how Charlie has commonality with the unlikely three, the play itself harps on the idea that "You are not alone."
