The First Monday in May

For as long as I can remember I have loved fashion. That love, for me and every other fashion aficionado, culminates every year on the first Monday in May. If you are any person who knows anything about the fashion industry or has ever read a Vogue then you know what the Met Gala is. If you do not. I will fill you in. In short, it is a gala that raises money for the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute. Anna Wintour, the editor in chief of Vogue co-chairs the event along with other very important people. This particular year the co-chairs also include Regina King, Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Tom Ford, and Adam Mosseri.

No matter how much jealousy I get from watching the Met Gala or any awards ceremony, I can not, for some reason, stop watching. This year is no different. I will watch switching between the VOGUE livestream and E! with my mom and sister. We, with no degree in fashion, will shamelessly judge every celebrity who walks down that infamous red carpet. We will mindlessly chat about what we would wear, the gossip surrounding these people, and what we think happens inside. We will do this while eating popcorn and wearing our best sweatpants no doubt.

I will always be unavailable on the first Monday in May. Although it may seem foolish to you, the reader, or even my father, I will not ever stop watching. I just can not peel my eyes. There is something about fashion bringing all of these extraordinary people together for one night, all in the name of charity, that I just find fascinating. Once it is over I will go back to watching reruns of Sex and the City and daydreaming about one day being an inch closer to the all the (gilded) glamor.
