Films or movies are one of the most popular forms of art. They use visual storytelling to convey impactful or difficult themes within just a few hours. And cinematography can also help individuals understand different perspectives. It serves as an accessible and convenient medium for connecting with others. A study conducted by Fandango, a movie ticket purchasing site, has shown that Gen Zer’s are the most active demographic going to the cinema.
Not surprising that the new age of technology has made many individuals reliant on their phones for constant distraction or entertainment and are now craving ways to put their phones down and connect in a shared experience like movies, all populated through apps like Letterbox or new online trends like Tik Tok edits that have helped market certain movies.
Amai Perez talked about how much she and her friends love going to the movies. “It’s one of our favorite ways to hang out together, especially when we don’t know what to do or where to go,” Perez said, emphasizing how going to the theater can help groups connect.
When asked which movie he thinks will be the most popular this year, Piotr Kowalczyk said, “Definitely spiderman. He’s really relatable to me as a struggling college student just trying to get through the semester, you know, he’s just the best, and everyone’s been waiting for this movie.”
Maria Ruiz talked about how she is looking forward to Sunrise on the Reaping. “I cannot believe more people did not choose Sunrise on the Reaping for this poll, I’ve read all the books from the Hunger Games, this new one was devastating. Left me so heartbroken, I hope the movie lives up to the book.”
The graph below shows which movies students are most excited for this summer.
