Register to Vote in the Campus Center!

By: Kyle Chmielowski

Wilbur Wright College hosts Newman Civic Fellow, to promote registering to vote and over turnout. This happens every Wednesday from 11 am to 2 pm starting September 11 until October 9 in the Campus Center.

The events highlight how Tammatha Spivey works to increase knowledge of the upcoming election. The Newman Civic Fellow is nominated every year to play a significant part in leading community initiatives on campus.

The event educates students and staff on why it’s very important to vote. Spivey has ensured, “The most important thing is to understand that you need to vote regardless of the candidate. Our democracy will fall apart if we stop voting, they will take our right to vote away.”

Utilizing QR codes that students can scan to register to vote and providing direct, bipartisan information Spivey says “We need to simplify politics again. Overcomplicating it is kicking out people that don’t have accessibility, understanding, or background.”

Spivey pointed out the hesitancy of some students to seek out voter information. She will not tell others who to vote for but will provide credible, bipartisan information on voting.

“The young generation has a really big influence. We just don't understand it yet. And they're using that to their advantage, to kind of make us feel dumb and make us inaccessible to voter information” Spivey said.

This event runs until October 9, offering students time to gather the information they need and ask any questions to register to vote.

Online registration is open until October 20. Stop by the Campus Center on Wednesdays to learn about voter information!
