Getting Ready for Autumn

It's officially September! Nature’s color scheme changes, and the warm humid air transitions into a chilly breeze.

It’s time to switch out our sandals and shorts to sweaters and boots. Fall is seen as a season of gloominess, but to others, it can be their favorite season.

Autumn is a season that brings in a warm palette, filled with reds, oranges, and browns, a season that brings in a certain kind of warmth.

The change in weather can symbolize a new beginning, leaves change color and detach, slowly taking their time to fall.

To prepare for fall I created a fun guide to enjoy the fall season to its fullest potential. Enjoy!

 What to do?

  1. Switch up your coffee order: Every coffee shop has changed its menu near this time, pumpkin syrup is back at Dunkin’ Donuts. The number of ways that you can change up your coffee order using the seasonal flavors is endless.

  2. Seasonal treats: I believe baking is at its height during the fall. Whether it’s pies, donuts, or cinnamon rolls, nothing tastes better than a warm treat after returning from the chilly breeze. If you’re not much of a baker, you can always visit your local coffee shop as they probably offer a variety of seasonal treats. If you don’t feel like baking but can want something sweet, you can always make caramel apples, the perfect treat for a fall day. You can visit your local coffee shop as they probably offer a variety of seasonal treats.

  3. Outside activities: The amount of pumpkin patches, corn mazes, and apple orchards that are open is astronomical. Nothing screams fall more than going to a pumpkin patch or going apple picking.

  4. Inside activities: If you're not much of an outside person, you can enjoy carving pumpkins, a movie marathon, or baking as stated above. If you enjoy getting a scared every now and then, you can also visit haunted houses or head to your closest movie theater to enjoy a horror movie, considering horror movies are at their height during the autumn period.

  5. Halloween: As fall approaches, that means that Halloween is coming up. I could’ve included these activities above, but let’s be honest it needed its own section. From having a horror movie marathon to visiting a haunted house, the possibilities are endless for horror lovers. There are a couple of Halloween parades this year in Chicago, for example, the Arts in the Dark parade, hosted by LUMA8 and the City of Chicago.

Whether you're a horror fan or a homebody, I hope you find something in this list to enjoy during the fall!
