On Feb. 27 the Dean of Student Services Maria Llopiz and the Associate Dean and Title IX Coordinator Romell Murden-Woldu retired. Llopiz and Murden-Woldu were a core part of the Advising and Transfer Center, which has a staff that is tight-knit and works closely together. “As a college it's not just the work that we do at the advising and transfer, but as a college, it's really a community effort to support our students,” said Susan Calabrese, the director of the transfer center.
Calabrese spoke highly of the former deans and the legacy they left behind. "It's the legacy of what they have taught us in doing our work here and how to serve students with excellence and always putting the needs of the students before anything else, going above and beyond to make sure that we're meeting those needs.”
The search for replacements has already started. President Oroz said, “Currently both positions have been posted. We have the committees already selected and the work is on the way.”
When asked about the conditions of the Advising and Transfer Center, Calabrese said, “We have been well-supported and we have been well-trained on how to do our jobs and we know that the way is being prepared for new leadership in this area.” According to Oroz, faculty are “happy for them and are going to celebrate their accomplishments at our employee appreciation coming up in May.”
Wright College will feel the absence of the hardworking deans, Maria Llopiz and Romell Murden-Woldu, as Wright is thankful for their student-first work and their contributions to the community.
