Behind Their Uniforms, Wright College Security Officers Have Unique Stories To Tell, Impacts To Make

Updated: Nov 22, 2022

Here at Wright, as soon as you walk in the building, you see members of our college’s Safety and Security staff. Behind their uniform, they all have personal stories.

Every member of the Safety and Security team has either a law enforcement background or is currently working with a law enforcement agency. Victor M. Guerrieri, the director of Wright’s Safety and Security team, says, “It’s an advantage to have someone who knows the law, have people who have been trained, and know how to handle emergency situations.” Guerrieri himself has 38 years’ experience as a Chicago police officer.

They also enjoy other aspects of the job. One of those aspects, according to Patricia “Pat” Dyer, is “helping students make the transition from highschool to college.” One part of this transition is simply walking onto campus for the first time and navigating it, which for the first time, can be overwhelming. Many of our first interactions with someone on campus is usually with security, asking for directions. Whether you’re a first year student or visiting, they are here to help you navigate through the building, along with looking after your safety.

The impact Wright’s Safety and Security staff have on campus can potentially go unnoticed by students. When students go to classes in the morning the opening shift is responsible for unlocking the classroom doors and allowing students in the building at 7:30 a.m. Their impact, however, doesn’t end there with their job’s duties. Each security officer brings their own personality that reflects and helps create the campus culture. Officer John Brinks hopes to have an impact of “Keeping campus a friendly, safe, and happy atmosphere for students to study.”
